Though Taurus season is unfortunately behind us, A Wise Child has been graced by the presence of fellow Taurus lady and podcast host Hannah Rainer, one of the two genius minds behind Rehash, a podcast that revists and delves into cultural phenomena that “take social media by storm only to be quickly forgotten.” Hannah started this podcast with her best friend Maia (aka Broey Deschanel) and it's taken off, covering everything from Dimes Square and Caroline Calloway to dating apps (and was notably one of the rare interviews Caroline Calloway gave after publishing her long awaited and oft doubted debut novel Scammer). In creating this podcast, Hannah and Maia have played a pivotal role in reigniting the practice of creating living and studied discussion about discourse: something very notably absent from cultural chatter in the past few years.
[On the Rehash process]: “I think it’s always best when the other person is just thinking of something to say in response to a piece of information naturally, because that’s where you get the more organic stuff. As much as it’s important to feel like you’re prepared for something ahead of time, all of the magic happens when you’re recording. You really just have to set it up so it’s optimal for natural banter; you can have all the information you want but it’s not going to be entertaining if you know the two parties involved aren’t having a compelling conversation.”
In our discussion, I playfully called Rehash informative gossip, but it really does fall squarely into that category. While listening to Rehash feels alot like falling down a cultural rabbit hole with your girlfriends on a sleepy afternoon, I would be remiss to not point out that I always walk away from an episode either learning something new about a topic or cultural figure, or feeling happy that someone else has made a deep dive on a topic I’m interested available to the public ear. As a long time listener of Rehash, chatting with Hannah about how the sausage gets made was such a treat and I hope you enjoyed our triple Taurus link up (our fabulous producer Savannah is ALSO a Taurus lady) and podcast crossover moment as much as we did. :)
“How you could have raw footage, raw information, and just the process of how you shape that into something else is fascinating to me.”
Buuut before we go, we have to quickly chat about Hannah’s incredible style and her five essentials (of course…our trademark questions). In true Taurus fashion, Hannah’s style is as elegant, chic, and straightforward as she is. Her ideal outfit if she were a cartoon character who could never change would be a black miniskirt, knee-high dark red boots, a going out top™, her lucky denim bag (a gift from Maia, duh), and one of her insanely good faux fur coats.
Her five essentials are just as cool, and frankly just as Taurus woman coded:
